Looking for a quality dry-erase board/whiteboard, help!?
I want to buy a dry-erase/white board but I’m not sure which brand to buy. I’m debating between expo and quartet. Which one is the better brand, and how do you know? Also, is a melamine or porcelain board better? Thanks for your input!

Since you posted this under "teaching" I will assume that you are a teacher.
That being said … you will be using your dry erase boards a lot so YES there is definitely a difference between the type of board you select. Melamine is not for you. You use the board way too much and Melamine will not last or perform to your needs.
Porcelain steel dry erase boards are the best writing surface for people who need to use their boards a lot. They will last about 50 years and you can continue to clean them and restore them to a great writing surface over and over. Melamine will last anywhere from a year to 5 years depending upon how you take care of it.
As a teacher porcelain steel will also offer you the capability to use magnets and magnetic accessories. If you select a mid-gloss porcelain steel you will also be able to project onto the writing surface with your over-head projector, etc. This makes for a great teaching tool.
Now for the brand… obviously I’m going to be biased and recommend the OptiMA Best porcelain steel dry erase boards from MyWhiteboards.com. They come in sizes that the box stores and office supply superstores just don’t offer and right now they are on sale.
I will provide a link for you. The choice of where you buy is up to you but I would absolutely recommend that you stick to a good quality porcelain steel board. Watch out for what some stores call magnetic white boards … make sure that it is porcelain and not white painted steel. Not the same.

it really doesnt matter what brand. i like quartet ones..honestly i only care about the markers. it depends on how easily they erase(:
oh, and you can get them at target.
Expo is the better known brand. The markers you use are very important. I have found that only black dry erase markers erase cleanly. Colors other than black leave a residue that you have to scrub to get off and that takes away some of the surface lamination.
